The Audi A4 is a compact executive car based upon the Volkswagen B platform. The first generation model was the successor to the Audi 80, and is considered by the manufacturer to be a continuation of that line.
Introduced to the European market in 1994, the Audi A4 cars provided the consumer with a variety of different options, including a range of internal combustion engines in both petrol and diesel formats. The A4 was also the first of its group to feature a 1.8 litre 20v engine with five valves per cylinder.
The first generation, known as the B6 series, ran in production from 1994 through to 2001, and included a four-door sedan and an estate version, known as the Avant.
The second generation of Audi A4 (B7 series) ran from 2005 through to 2008, featuring a four-door saloon, five-door estate and two-door cabriolet version.
The generation of nearly new Audi A4 cars being produced today began mass production in 2008. Known as the B8 series of Audi A4, the first car in this generation was revealed at the 2008 Frankfurt Motor Show and featured a four-door saloon and a five-door Avant (estate).

Additionally, according to vehicle inspection data, the 2007 Audi A4 Avant diesel version was one of the most reliable vehicles on the market for its year.
