The Audi S6 is one of two high-performance variants of Audi's A6 and seems to have been around for ever. Originally launched in 1994, there are currently only two body styles available: the 4-door saloon or the 5-door Avant (estate).
In terms of key selling points, aside from the superb quattro four-wheel drive system, the S6 boasts a decent array of technical wizardry, a generous application of chrome, oodles of space and comfort.
Historically, the ‘S’ range models have always been petrol driven, but as of 2019, the S6 is turbo diesel only. A brave move indeed given the negative public opinion and, in some cases, resentment by many towards diesel engines.
In terms of whether it works or not, the 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 is based on the one in the Audi A6 50 TDI and gets the same mild hybrid system too. So, you’ll have plenty of oomph, providing you can look past the fake twin exhaust pipes. Yes, that’s right, a £60k car comes with fake exhaust pipes!
