BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series began production in 1975, with the fifth generation making its debut in 2012.

The first generation, the E21 ran from 1975 through to 1983, and is available in a two door saloon and two door convertible, although an authorised cabriolet version was built by Baur. The cockpit design featured in the first generation 3 Series marked the introduction of a completely new design concept: the angled centre console that has become an integral part of BMW designs ever since.

The second generation 3 Series was produced from 1982 through to 1992, and used BMW 3 Series E90s are available in coupe, convertible, sedan and five door touring cars.

The E36 is the third generation of the BMW 3 Series (1992 through to 1998) and the E46 marks the fourth generation of the series (1998 through to 2005). The fifth series (E29) ran from 2005 through to 2011, and the sixth series (F30) is scheduled for production at the beginning of next year.

What makes second hand BMW 3 Series sales popular with petrol heads is the M3 - a high performance motorsport version of the car designed and developed by BMW's in-house motorsports division. Secondhand M3 models are sold in several series, with convertible, coupe and sedan body styling. The engines in the M3 provide superior handling, suspension and braking, while the altered body styling provides aerodynamic benefits. The M3 is marked by its tri-colour M' emblem.
