The Ford C-Max or Ford Focus C-Max as it was originally known, entered production in Saarlouis, Germany on 27th June 2003. Classed as a compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), this sporty family car was billed as, 'the people carrier for people who don't want one'.
The first generation of Ford Focus C-Max cars were initially available only in Europe; however, after some time it became partially available in New Zealand. Renowned for its spacious cargo carrying capacity, the Focus C-Max was released in four model types, the Studio, LX, Zetec and Ghia.
In 2006 the C-Max was given a long-awaited facelift and the updated version was revealed that December, at the Bologna Motor Show. The first Mk II Ford C-Max sales were made in the spring of the following year and owners rushed to exchange their used Ford C-Max for the latest model. The model range comprised the Studio, Style, Zetec and Titanium. The name change to C-Max from Focus C-Max was down to Ford's decision to launch a full line of MPVs using the 'Max' branding, including the Ford S-Max.
By 2010 Ford were ready to launch the third generation of C-Max, which benefited from a range of new equipment in addition to upgrades to features carried over from previous models. Most importantly, Ford played their ace and finally launched the Grand C-Max, the highly anticipated seven-seat version of the model. Revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show these cars hit the market in late 2010.
It was announced, at the 2011 North American International Auto Show, that the C-Max would finally be released in the US and Canada, alongside the newly created Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid and the C-Max Hybrid.
The Ford C-Max has always been a well-built, smart and desirable family car, scoring exceptionally high in child protection and safety ratings. It has improved dramatically over the years since it was introduced in terms of features, comfort and variants.
