Ford Ecosport

The Ford Ecosport was launched in 2014. Based heavily on one of the UK’s all-time, best-selling cars, the Ford Fiesta, it should have been a recipe for success. Unfortunately, it never really panned out that way. Whilst the Fiesta is massively popular for a number of reasons, with the EcoSport, Ford managed to remove everything that made the Fiesta so successful, leaving us with a small car which looks like a 4x4, but doesn’t work off road.

Admittedly, the sporty looking ST-Line trim is the most aesthetically desirable, but it all seems too little, too late; the small SUV market has moved on. The expectation now is for highly capable, highly practical, comfortable and spacious SUV’s. Unfortunately, the Ecosport fails to deliver on too many of these requirements. It’s not particularly practical. Front and rear space is decent enough, but there are roomier, more comfortable alternatives available. The boot is also quite a bit smaller than the alternatives and the tailgate hinges from the side of the car, so you can’t open it when you’re backed up against a wall or another vehicle.

All that said, if you want a nippy, around-town car, the Ecosport is worth consideration. Alternatives at this price range include the Hyundai Bayon, Vauxhall Mokka, Hyundai Kona or possibly the Citroen C3 Aircross.
