Honda Accord

The Accord was first introduced in 1976 as a three-door hatchback. First generation Honda Accord cars were powered by a 1.6 litre 4-cylinder 68 horsepower CVCC engine and featured a 5-speed manual gearbox, aluminium cylinder head, remote hatch release and an AM/FM stereo.

As Honda Accord sales rocketed, its popularity was boosted further in 1979, when a saloon version of the car was released, followed by a deluxe special edition version in 1981, which featured leather upholstery, alloy wheels and electric windows. By 1982 Honda debuted its second generation model, sporting a larger and smarter body. This was followed, in 1983, with the introduction of a four-speed automatic transmission option and an upgrade in engine size.

The third generation Accord was unveiled in 1986 and was released in five versions, DX Hatchback, DX saloon, LX Saloon, LXi Hatchback and LXi Saloon. This range of Accords was larger and sportier, featuring a sporty double wishbone suspension system. 1990 saw the introduction of the fourth generation Accord, which had once again grown in body and engine size, along with the introduction of an estate version. Four years later came the launch of a completely restyled fifth generation and Accord performance reached dizzying new heights with the introduction of a V6 engine option for the first time.

The Accord was completely redesigned in 1998, with new engine and chassis options. 2003 saw the introduction of a 160bhp engine and upgraded safety features and in 2008 a larger, more sophisticated, sleeker and more powerful, yet equally fuel-efficient eighth generation was released. Since the model was first introduced the secondhand Honda Accord has remained one of the lowest depreciating models around.

Winner of too many awards to mention, including a 5-star safety rating in each NCAP category and being named one of the 10 Best Cars by 'Car and Driver Magazine', the Honda Accord is renowned for its adaptability, fun, reliability and unwaveringly good quality.
