Land Rover Discovery

The used Land Rover Discovery originates from the British manufacturer, Land Rover. First introduced in 1989, the company have produced four generations of the model to date. This mid-sized SUV is renowned for its off-road capabilities.

The first series of Land Rover Discovery cars was unveiled in 1989. Based on the chassis, it came with a lower price tag in order to appeal to a more mass market. Built with a four-cylinder engine, they were only available with three doors at first. The five-door became available in 1990 with an option for two extra seats in the boot.

Series 2 Land Rover Discovery sales started with this debut in 1998 in the UK. It was advertised as having 720 changes which included new body panels, an extended rear body, increasing space but decreasing its off-road abilities, and a 2495 cc Td5 engine, which allowed for a smoother drive.

In April 2004 Land Rover Discovery series 3 was introduced. The main features of the new design were the steeply raked windscreen and the stepped roof line. Land Rover unveiled their Integrated Body Frame where the passenger compartment and engine bay were constructed as one monocoque which was then mated to a ladder-frame chassis. It was also a pioneer for Land Rover in terms of rear locking differential. In 2008 the Armoured Discovery 3 was unveiled.

Discovery 4 went on sale in 2009. Although it uses the same Integrated Body Frame it is very much an up-dated version. This model of Land Rover Discovery cars differs from previous models in its front and rear lights, front grille and bumper. It is also the first model to incorporate Daytime Running Lights.

In terms of awards, the Discovery 3 series has been the most recognised of the models, winning 87 international awards. Originally built as a bridge for the Defender and Range Rover models, it has slowly progressed to be nearly as good on as well as off the road.
