Land Rover Freelander

Created by Land Rover, the used Land Rover Freelander is a compact crossover SUV. Known for its superior off-road capabilities, it is unlike normal SUVs in that it uses a monocoque design and not a body-on-frame structure.

The first generation of secondhand Land Rover Freelander vehicles were introduced in 1997. In terms of Land Rover Freelander sales, it was the fastest selling 4x4 model within Europe until 2002. There were a number of variations of this series, which included a three-door softback and hardback and a five-door estate version.

The Freelander 2 was unveiled in 2006 at the British International Motor Show. This series of used Land Rover Freelander uses the EUCD platform which is a transversely mounted 3.2 litre I6 engine first introduced in the Volvo S80 series. It also incorporates the 2.2 litre DW12 common rail turbo-diesel engine. The used Land Rover Freelander 2 offers higher ground clearance and contains more safety features. It also uses the Terrain Response off-road driving system as found in the Range Rover. Used Land Rover Freelander 2 sales began back in 2007 after the model debuted in the US.

The Freelander 2 TD4_e was introduced in 2009 and designed to produce less carbon emissions, as well as provide better fuel economy. This nearly new Land Rover Freelander has a system which stops the engine when the car is in neutral and also recovers energy through regenerative braking due to its heavy duty starter motor.

Land Rover Freelander cars continue to develop with 2011 unveiling the Freelander 2 eD4 model, available in two-wheel drive. The Parkers' New Car Awards 2011 saw the Land Rover Freelander 2 win in the 4x4 category. Despite various changes, used models are still renowned for their fantastic off-road abilities, spacious interiors and high-quality feel.
