Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is the small form SUV of the Nissan range. As such it is a crossover more than an off-road vehicle, meaning that it offers the appearance of a full-fledged SUV while still retaining the amenities of a family car. It also offers the handling of a family car when it is driven - which is an advantage most larger SUVs do not offer.

The Nissan Qashqai is a relatively new vehicle, being introduced in Europe in 2007, and was designed by the London branch of Nissan Design. Nissan Qashqai sales were strong from the beginning with well over 150,000 units being sold in Europe in the first year of production; over half a million units were sold by 2010. The unusual name 'Qashqai' is a reference to a nomadic Iranian tribe, alluding to the adventurous nature of the car. Despite being cut down in size and power from a full SUV, the Nissan Qashqai does retain some off-road ability and offers a choice of a five or six speed gear box and four-wheel drive.

A complete restyling of the Nissan Qashqai was completed in 2010, and involved improved rear lighting in the form of LED clusters, and a face-lifted front end. The interior was also updated, including changes to the computer interface and better soundproofing. Going for an older used Nissan Qashqai would be a way to make bigger savings if these new features aren't essential, although the re-worked models are beginning to reach the secondhand Nissan Qashqai market.

The Nissan Qashqai has the honour of being the first car to ever receive a full five star rating on the Euro NCAP safety tests. It is one of Nissan's most adaptable, versatile and attractive all-round vehicles.
