The Renault Clio, classed as a supermini, is manufactured by French car giants Renault. The Clio was originally launched into the market in 1990 and has been redeveloped consistently ever since then. The Renault Clio car has gone through its second generation and is now into its third generation. It was introduced through the Paris Motor Show in the summer of 1990 and became available to buy in Britain early the following year. The Clio was initially designed as a replacement for the Renault 5, which remained in production in Slovenia for a further year until 1996.
The Renault Clio was originally introduced with petrol engine sizes of 1.2L and 1.4L, and diesel engine sizes of 1.7L and 1.9L. The car was subjected to minor improvements a year after its launch, but it was not until March 1993 that a new model was released, with changes made to the exterior and interior of the car. The second-generation Renault Clio cars were launched in 1998 with a more modern styling and a less costly manufacturing process gave it a lower starting price. The third generation model was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2006, and reflected a move by Renault to offer a more upmarket car that has since become the benchmark for safety, quality and style. In 2009 the third generation model was given a facelift, offering a more hard-hitting appearance.
The car has been an excellent seller, with Renault Clio sales figures consistently projecting the model into the 'top selling car' lists since it was launched. It was Renault's first car to consistently be among the top ten sellers in Britain. It remains today the only car to have won the 'European Car of the Year' award twice, once in 1991 and again in 2006. As a leader in safety and design, new and nearly new Renault Clio cars from every generation are in great demand.
