Seat Leon

Originally launched in October of 1998, the SEAT Leon is a smaller family vehicle built by SEAT, S.A. (the Spanish automobile manufacturer) and the Volkswagen Group. To date, there have been two generations of SEAT Leon cars produced. The Type 1M or Mk1 was manufactured from 1998 until 2006 and the Type 1P or Mk2 has been manufactured since 2005. The Mk1 was the hatchback version of the Toledo model, while the Mk2 has a much sharper exterior image, with more integrated external rear door handles and vertically-mounted windshield wipers.

The Mk1 was produced with a transverse engine and either 4-wheel or front-wheel drive. With a choice of three transmissions including a 4-speed automatic, and a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission and a choice of 3 diesel and 6 petrol engines to select from. The Mk2 offered more diversity with 11 different engine choices (1 LPG, 3 diesel, and 7 petrol) and 4 choices of transmissions (5 and 6-speed manual and a 6 and 7-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox). These features make the vehicle a desirable choice whether it is a used SEAT Leon or a new one.

Special versions of the second-hand SEAT Leon included the Cupra Pies Descalzos (2007), Cupra 310 Limited Edition (2008), Copa Edition (2008), and Streetcopa and World Champion Edition (2008). The Mk1 received two awards, namely the Portuguese Carro do Ano' (2001) and the Most satisfactory car of the Year Award 2007 (Polish magazine 'Auto Swiat'). The list of awards of the second generation Mk2 are quite numerous and includes 'Auto 1' Car of the Year (Spain 2006 - 'Auto Bild' Magazine) Car of the Year (Denmark 2006)) Diesel Car of the Year (Scotland 2006) GTI of the Year (Greece - 2006-07 for the SEAT Leon Cupra) and the Hellenic Car of the Year (2007).'
