One of the sportiest and flashiest family cars around, the Subaru Impreza manages to combine style and speed with practicality in a way that proved popular to both performance junkies and those more concerned with space and reliability. In 2001, the famous turbo charged version was released as the Turbo 2000 AWD, but the Subaru Impreza was first launched in the UK in 1993, initially as a five door station wagon and later as a saloon. Subaru Impreza cars are best known as being great value performance cars, but not all are as economic as the later models with smaller engines.
As full on performance motors the WRX and STi are both very fast, with good torque and quick steering. Traction is also excellent, due to their four-wheel drive design. They have the added advantage of reliability, although when things do go wrong they can be expensive to fix. Models include a five door version, helpful for transporting larger groups of people and luggage, with a spacious boot and comfortable seats. The design however makes the car as aesthetically appealing as a sports car, with a turbo scoop on the bonnet, rear wing and thick alloys. The design has been updated twice since the car was first released, with a face lift in 2003 and in 2006, and a 2.5 litre engine replacing the previous 2.0 litre model.
Subaru Impreza sales have been high for many reasons, but the car's reputation as a great all-rounder, both in terms of performance and practicality, have earned it a successful standing in the market. While parts can be expensive, even the Turbo version of this model keeps on going for years provided it is well maintained, and as a result the popularity of used Subaru Impreza vehicles continues.
