Tesla History

Founded in 2003, Tesla takes its name from inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla. Tesla began production of its first car model, the Roadster sports car, in 2009. This was followed in 2012 by the Model S, with the Model X following along in 2015. In 2017 the Model 3 was released Model Y 7-seater crossover arriving in 2020.

The Model 3 has been a huge success for Tesla and subsequently by June 2021, became the first electric car to sell 1 million units globally making it the all-time, best-selling plug-in electric car in the world.

The Tesla roadster was in a class of its own during its launch, with a full electric range reaching 245 miles - more than any other electric vehicle could reach at the time.

In 2014, Tesla Autopilot was introduced onto the market, offering semi-autonomous driving on the Tesla Model S and later on, other models. From 2012, Supercharger stations were built across the USA and Europe, offering faster charging for Tesla owners.
