Vauxhall Astra

The Vauxhall Astra, first released in 1980, is now reaching its sixth edition in three decades. As expected with such a long running series, there are many secondhand Vauxhall Astras on the market. It is a practical, spacious car that drives well and has proven to be safer than rival cars of its time, performing very well in crash tests. Vauxhall Astra sales have continued to be strong since this first edition of the car, and as a small family car it ticks all the boxes for safety, reliability, space and good value.

Whilst most styles and models of the Astra have changed little over the years, the Astra Mark 5 debuted in 2004 as a five door hatchback and was accompanied by a five door estate and a three door hatchback known as the Sport Hatch. The Sport Hatch had the option of a 'panoramic windscreen', extending the windscreen into the roof area, a unique feature for its time.

Vauxhall Astras today have all the design aspects of a saloon car but are much more compact. The sixth generation vehicle has been engineered to provide storage solutions for the twenty most commonly carried items in a car, as well as incorporating their patented 'Flexfloor' adjustable boot space system. Nearly new Vauxhall Astras benefit from all of these innovative features.

Things have come a long way for the Astra since it won the What Car? Car of the Year Award in 1980. Also voted 1985 European Car of the Year, the car has proved so reliable that the Metropolitan Police Service employ a fleet of the 2007 model as Incident Response Vehicles. In June 2010 Vauxhall achieved over 10,000 Vauxhall Astra sales, and the model remains the fourth best selling car of all time in Britain.
