The Volvo XC60 is marketed as a compact crossover SUV. It went on sale in Europe in 2008 and in the following year was introduced to the American market. Volvo XC60 sales have been strong since its launch, and in 2009, it was Volvo's bestselling vehicle.
The production car was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008. It is based in the Volvo Y20 platform, but also incorporates shared technology of the Land Rover Freelander. The design leader for this car was Lars Benwall. There are a range of Volvo XC60 cars available. These include the standard XC60 ES and the luxury XC60 SE LUX.
Due to its popularity, other models are being introduced. This includes an 'XC60 DRIVe' version capable of 737 miles from one tank of fuel and a sportier version, the XC60 Volvo Ocean Race Edition. The XC60 R, introduced in 2010, also has a sporty chassis and unique additions to the trim.
